Back to School Brush-Up™ Presented by Marathon Petroleum Corporation Foundation

 

FREE DENTAL SCREENINGS & CLEANINGS AT THE EVENT

Children 18 and under receive a voucher to return for a FREE comprehensive exam, x-rays, sealants and up to $100 of additional care.

On Friday, February 13th Roseman University College of Dental Medicine students provided free dental screenings and cleanings to 546 children.

  • 38% reported not having been to a dentist in over a year.
  • 49% reported not having a dental home.
  • 58% reported having no dental insurance.
  • 38% reported being enrolled in free lunch.

2025 Results

On Friday, August 1, 2025, Roseman University College of Dental Medicine provided free dental screenings and cleanings to 655 Salt Lake County & Utah County children.

  • 46% reported not having a dental home
  • 63% have no dental insurance
  • 39% haven’t seen a dentist in over a year
  • 12% had urgent needs; 42% had moderate needs

2025 Results

On Friday, January 31, 2025, Roseman University College of Dental Medicine provided free dental screenings and cleanings to 562 Salt Lake County & Utah County children.

 

  • 66% of our patients presented with 4 or more carious teeth.
  • 50% reported that they have no dental home.
  • Of the patients that reported, 44% said that it had been over 1 year since their last visit.
  • Of the patients that reported, 39% qualify for free lunch, which means that they come from families which earn less than 130% of the poverty level ($36,000 per year for a family of four).
  • Cost of the dental work provided and through the vouchers Roseman distributed amounts to over $505,000. That’s money that stays in the pockets of these families that they can use to feed, clothe, and shelter their families.

2024 Results

On Friday, August 2, 2024, Roseman University College of Dental Medicine provided free dental screenings and cleanings to a record 793 Salt Lake County & Utah County children.

  • 69% of our patients presented with 4 or more carious teeth.
  • 52% reported that they have no dental home.
  • Of the patients that reported, 40% said that it had been over 1 year since their last visit.
  • Of the patients that reported, 40% qualify for free lunch, which means that they come from families which earn less than 130% of the poverty level ($36,000 per year for a family of four).
  • Not to make it about the finances but the cost of the dental work you provided today and through the vouchers we distributed amounts to over $713,000.  That’s money that stays in the pockets of these families that they can use to feed, clothe, and shelter their families. Think of what that means for a family of four making $36,000/year.

  • 64% of our patients presented with 4 or more carious teeth.
  • 49% reported that they have no dental home.
  • Of the patients that reported, 37% said that it had been over 1 year since their last visit.
  • Of the patients that reported, 42% qualify for free lunch, which means that they come from families which earn less than 130% of the poverty level ($36,000 per year for a family of four).
  • The cost of the dental work that was provided at the event and through the vouchers distributed amounts to over $744,000.
