SUMMARY:School Supply Donation Drive
DESCRIPTION:About the Event \nStudent dentists at The Dental Clinic at Roseman University are providing free back-to-school dental exams for children in grades K-12. During this event\, students are also collecting new and gently used school supplies to donate to Mountainland Head Start. We are asking children and parents to bring any unused (or slightly used) school supplies that they no longer need\, and we will recycle these items by providing them for children in the Head Start program. \nSupplies Needed \nWe will accept any school supplies that you have and are willing to donate\, but students are particularly in need of: \n\nNotebooks (wide ruled)\nCrayons\nScissors (blunt tipped)\nRulers (centimeters and inches\, preferably with no sharp edges or points)\nPencils\n\nAbout Mountainland Head Start \nThe mission of Mountainland Head Start is to promote school readiness for children and self-sufficiency for families in need through quality comprehensive services and community partnerships. They serve children and families in Utah\, Juab\, and Wasatch counties. \nProject Head Start began in the summer of 1965 to help children prepare to enter kindergarten in the fall. The next year\, Nebo\, Provo\, and Alpine school districts applied for grants and ran their own separate Head Start programs. Over time these programs were consolidated under the direction of the Mountainland Association of Governments (MAG) as part of the Mountainland Community Action Program. The programs were consolidated under a single director in the 1978-79 school year and the same year they broke away from MAG and Mountainland Head Start was incorporated and applied for its own non-profit 501(c)(3) designation. Over time the program has grown from 125 funded slots to serving 817 children and families today.
